The question is popped, and the ring is on! But… now what? Planning a wedding can seem stressful and nerve racking at times, but a little organization can go a long way! Even though everyone’s timing is different, there is no right answer to the EXACT amount of time that is needed to plan a wedding. We have provided a step-by-step 12 month checklist to plan your wedding.
12 Months Out
This is the best time to set all of the basic foundational “stuff” in a wedding.
Things like determining a budget, selecting a venue, a guest list, overall theme/colors, wedding planner (If hiring one) and of course a date.
11 - 10 Months Out
This is the time where you start really stressing, but don't fret! Time is your friend, and getting these things done now can save you time and sometimes money!
Start hiring services/vendors that book up quickly like photographers, videographers, DJ’s, venue and caterers. Building Pinterest boards can help, and shopping for your wedding dress is a must. Others include engagement pictures, and starting to look at wedding invitations.
9 - 8 Months Out
Send “save the dates”, and register for gifts, as well as selecting potential florists. Figuring out the bridal party and everything that comes with it is a good thing to do in this time frame. This includes any gifts, and dress/suit fittings.
7 - 6 Months Out
If your rehearsal dinner is not being held at the same venue as your wedding, it is a good idea to book it at this time. It is also time to hire an officiant, and order any rental items such as lounge furniture, a dance floor, linens, draping, etc. Also if you need it, hiring a lighting technician is always a good idea.
5 Months Out
Book transportation! If it is needed for your guests, or if you are renting anything to have the most epic send-off then this is the time to start booking. The goal for booking your honeymoon is to be on the same page with your fiancé about budget, locations, timelines, itinerary, and traveling arrangements by the 5 month mark, so you are able to book now. Don't forget to send out your wedding invitations with RSVP’s!
Other things that are overlooked are renting/buying the groom’s tux as well as premarital counseling if that is something you and your fiancé plan on doing before the wedding.
4 Months Out
Final tasting with caterers, and choosing your cake as well as buying wedding bands!
3 Months Out
This is where things start getting real!
Writing your vows, and selecting any readings are things to start early. As well as any playlists you plan to have and picking out a few specific songs like your first dance, and your walk down the aisle
Start your DIY projects! This can include everything from guest favors to centerpieces. Sometimes projects can take time, and once again, time is your friend!
2 Months Out
Your marriage license is something you shouldn't wait until the last minute to do.
Buy all small items! This also includes any gifts to parents or any one else involved in the wedding.
Request last minute RSVPS
Finalize your seating chart!
1 Month Out
When planning a wedding it is easy to forget all of the last minute, stressful things that will happen the week/day of the wedding. Getting these tasks done now can make for an easier day of the wedding!
Pay your vendors in full
Order/make place cards
Break in your wedding shoes!
Week Of Wedding
The only thing left is the nitty gritty details like any self-pampering
Pack your honeymoon bags
Final dress fittings, practicing your vows out loud, and cleaning your ring!
Also of course, clearing your to-do list so you can solely focus on your wedding is one of the best ways you can prepare for one of the biggest days of your life!
